Patsoglou Aristides

He was born in Lesvos in 1941. He studied under the sculptor Th. Apartis (1962-1965). He then studied sculpture at ASKT (1965-1969) in the workshop of G. Pappas. From 1969 he settled in Paris, where he continued his studies at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (1970-1974) alongside sculptors César and Collamarini and engravers Robert Cami and Jacques Lagrange. He also took courses in plastic arts, art sciences and audiovisual technology at the University of Paris VIII (1974-1979). In 1983 he made his first solo exhibition in Athens (New Forms). His artistic activity was already divided between France and Greece.
He is mainly engaged in sculpture. Engraving and, to a lesser extent, painting also occupy an important place in his work. Throughout his work, he develops from the beginning a personal style, which reveals on the one hand his familiarity with modern artistic trends, on the other hand his close relationship with the forms of Greek antiquity. Starting with visual reality, emphasizing the human figure and naked body, focuses on the performance of movement. His subjects often refer to mythological or historical connotations. The characteristic stylization of the figures highlights the plastic values and the expressionist atmosphere of the works.
In his monumental works he is interested in the relationship of the work with space and light. Utilizes the expressive possibilities of the materials it uses (iron rods, sheets, brass, steel), leaving visible the traces of their processing.
In his painting and engraving he combines documentary and abstract elements. Aptly handles the gradations of gray with the technique of oxygraphy and acupuncture, while color plays an important role in his lithographs and woodcuts, as well as in his painting.
Together with 50 other artists he founded the Logos Group and organized exhibitions in France and elsewhere (1981-1986).
He presented his work in more than 40 solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He has been honored with awards and distinctions, mainly in France and Canada, while many of his works are located outdoors, as well as in public and private collections such as the collection of the National Bank, the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Musée d ' Art Contemporain in Quebec, etc.
