Papadoperaki Aspasia

Aspasia Papadoperaki (born 1942) is a Greek sculptor, writer and set designer from Heraklion, Crete. She studied sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts with a scholarship from IKY, and continued her studies with a scholarship from EOMMEX at the Σχολcole Sup é rieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris.

It is distinguished for the realistic and representative character of the form of its sculptures, the measure, the proportions and the symmetry that they have. She uses in her sculpture elements from her studies in the human figure, as well as elements from the Aegean folk architecture and from the archaic period of Greek sculpture.

Her works can be found in various places, for example the bust of Xylouris in Heraklion, the bust of Cavafy in Alexandria and Nichori in Istanbul, and the imposing statue of Philip II on Cyprus-Papagou Avenue. She has also created monuments for the "Woman in Resistance" in various villages of Crete. Among other things, he created the bronze sculpture of Maria Callas in Athens (Madrid Square, behind the Hilton Hotel), one of the most beautiful modern sculptures in the city.

She has participated in numerous exhibitions in Greece and abroad, such as that of 1980, at the Salon de Mai and at the Alexandria Biennale of the same year. Her studies have been published in books, newspapers and magazines and she has participated in world and pan-Hellenic Symposia and Conferences. Her writing work includes the books "The form of K.P. Kavafi "," The Epicurean poet K.P. Kavafi "and" On sculpture ", while in 2003 the Benaki Museum published its book" Studying Theotokopoulos ".

In 2009 she was awarded by the Academy of Athens for all her work.
