Gravalos Panagiotis

Panagiotis Gravvalos was born in Lamia in 1933. At the age of 18 he came to Athens, where he lives permanently until today, to study with an IKY scholarship at the School of Fine Arts with teachers Giannis Moralis and Spyros Papaloukas. After 1960 he studied and engaged in Graphic Arts. From 1961 to 1967 he taught at the Laboratory of Graphic Arts of the Doxiadis School near the engraver A. Tassos, with whom he collaborated on the design of many Greek and foreign stamps. In 1968, together with Giorgos Vakirtzis and Costas Tzimoulis, they started collecting material for the book "THE POPULAR INSCRIPTION IN GREECE" which was published in 1974. In 1971, at a world competition in Warsaw, a poster of his was awarded the first prize with a sports content and has since been exhibited at the Museum of Graphic Arts in Poland. In 1981 he published the book "OPTIKON" which he prepared together with the photographer Nikos Kontos. He has been awarded internationally for many of his stamps, as well as the engraving award at the 2nd Panhellenic Youth Exhibition. He is a member of many artistic groups, including the "Association of Contemporary Art", the "Group for communication and education in art", the "Group of Engraving Centers", with which he has exhibited in various parts of Greece and the abroad. From 1982 until today he is a consultant at the Museum of Modern Greek Art, Municipality of Rhodes, where during his tenure many remarkable exhibitions of Greek artists were organized. He also contributed to the enrichment of the collection of the Museum of Modern Greek Art, Municipality of Rhodes, but also to the Municipal Gallery of the Municipality of Lamia, with works of art by important Greek artists. From 1986 until it was absorbed by Alpha Bank, he was an artistic consultant at the Ionian Bank where he created the engraving collection, edited its publications and prepared the operation of the Museum of Engraving and Graphic Arts of the same Bank. The activities of Mr. Panagiotis Gravvalos in the field of art, dynamic and important, are not limited only to the creation of works of art, but extend to the organization, dissemination and renewal of artistic education, the renewal and development of graphic arts in the country and many other sectors. applied Arts. His works are in many museums of engraving, graphic arts and philately around the world. Also, in the Museum of Modern Greek Art, Municipality of Rhodes, in the Municipal Art Galleries, Ioannina, Larissa, Thessaloniki, Lamia, etc. as well as in many private collections in Greece and abroad.
In the period 1997-2004, he dealt with the Athens Olympic Games, the Organization OE. Athens 2004 as Artistic Consultant. From 1997 until the start of the Games, he designed many of the lapel pins that were released. He also designed the 24 official Collectible Coins issued by the Mint of the Bank of Greece, of which 8 Gold and 16 Silver. He artistically curated the Olympic and Paralympic medals of the Games.
