Arfaras Michalis

Michalis Arfaras was born in Athens in 1954. In 1974 he left for West Germany, where he began studying engraving techniques and experimental cinema. Since 1985 he has been a professor of engraving at the University of the historic city of Hildesheim (Hannover). To date, on the occasion of his exhibitions in Greece, Germany and Cyprus, two catalogs of works of various printing techniques have been published, two catalogs of assembled works that began in 1989, a study in collaboration with Frank Reiman entitled " Introduction to the technique of Engraving "(1979). He has illustrated various Greek and German editions. An important role in his work is played by the production of experimental film films, for many of which he has won awards in Europe. Since 1974, he lives in Hanover. From 1980, when he completed his studies in engraving, until 1989, he used every known printing technique (gravure, lithography, typography, typography, silkscreen, typewriting, glyphography and offset) to create images that he often uses in the production of original experimental movies. In 1989, he began assembling various items collected from industrial landfills, which he presented during the 1990s in the sections "Figurines" (1992) and "Messengers of Forgotten Spaces" (1995). The small and large assembled works (assemblage) of Michalis Arfaras form hypothetical archetypes of the modern characterized by electronic know-how.
